Michael Levin moved to Israel from Philadelphia in 2002 and joined the IDF Paratroopers Unit. In the summer of 2006, Michael was given leave to visit his family in the US. Two weeks into his trip, war broke out on Israel’s northern border. Michael immediately cut short his vacation and flew back to Israel to serve with his unit. He fought to receive permission to be sent to the north to rejoin his unit. When Michael arrived, his unit was sent to the Hizbollah village of Aita al-Shaab. On Tuesday, August 1, Michael’s unit moved forward and began an intense fire-fight with Hizbollah forces inside the village of Aita al-Shaab. Michael Levin was 22 years old when he fell fighting for the country he loved.

Michael had a dream of creating a warm and supportive community for the 7,000 lone soldiers serving in the IDF. He envisioned a center where lone soldiers would hang out, share experiences and support one another while enjoying meals and getting help and advice.

The Lone Soldier Center was established in Michael’s memory in 2009 by a group of his friends and other former lone soldiers. The Lone Soldier Center is the first and only organization solely dedicated to meeting all of

their physical and social needs. Its staff and volunteers know the thousands of lone soldiers who come through its doors each year by name and have turned the Center into their home ensuring that lone soldiers would no longer be alone.

With Yom HaZikaron approaching, help us keep Michael’s name and legacy alive by providing a home to the thousands of lone soldiers he inspired to serve and protect the Jewish people. You can donate funds here!
