Lone Soldier Frequently Asked Questions
A soldier can only receive early discharge under certain conditions (for example in case of illness).
Any soldier whose parents do not reside in Israel or whose parents do reside in Israel but do not support the soldier.
We help lone soldiers before, during and after their service. Our programs include: advising lone soldiers, providing Shabbat & Holiday Meals, bringing furniture & appliances to apartments of lone soldiers, providing basic needs items (backpacks, toiletries etc), base visits, attending draft days and ceremonies, fun days, providing social & educational events, Tsevet Lohamim, a pre-army mental and physical preparation course.
It depends on the person and chosen service path. The draft process for Machal can theoretically take as little as 3 months from once you arrive in Israel.
The assignment to a specific IDF unit or job is based on a few factors such as the army’s needs, your medical profile as determined by IDF tests during the enlistment procedures (in Israel), your min. service time, and your preferences. The final decision relies exclusively with the IDF.
