MEALS

Too often lone soldiers are on their own on Shabbat and Jewish holidays – In small apartments, they sit down on broken couches to eat cold shnitzel and frozen pita for their weekend meals. Lone soldiers come from warm families and vibrant communities around the world. The Lone Soldier Center strives to provide both warm meals and a real community for lone soldiers to eat, celebrate, and integrate into Israel with. We work to assure that no lone soldier is lonely or hungry on weekends off! The Center offers Shabbat & Holiday meals for 100-300 lone soldiers in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in partnership with the Jerusalem Great Synagogue.

FAMILY & COMMUNITY

In order to help create a strong, warm community, the Center hosts numerous events each month. These events range from Friday night dinners at the historic Jerusalem Great Synagogue, nights on the town with friends, and even, for the cultured ones among us, Wine & Art Shows. In addition, the Center also provides informative seminars and discussion to ensure that all Lone Soldiers are aware of their rights and privileges.

ADVISING

While many soldiers can turn to family or friends for guidance, Lone Soldiers do not have that same support system. The Center has become a leading source for Lone Soldiers in navigating the often confusing military and governmental systems. The Center does this by providing vital verbal and written information to Lone Soldiers. Whether drafting, currently serving, or recently released, the Center is always there to help – providing information on what IDF service entails and guiding lone soldiers through difficult situations that can arise during their service.

BASIC PHYSICAL NEEDS

The Lone Soldier Center’s Basic Needs Program provides lone soldiers with the supplies, food, equipment and clothing they need both on and off base.
Our trained team of Lone Soldier Advisors (all former lone soldiers themselves) determine the items that lone soldiers are in need of before, during and immediately following their military service.
Thanks to generous donations and sponsorships, we are able to provide Lone Soldiers with food vouchers, large backpacks, clothing, shoes, winter gear, socks, toiletries, draftee kits and more.

EMERGENCY SUPPORT

While a lone soldiers serves in the IDF, life continues, with all of its ups and downs, for them and their families around the world. This fund assists lone soldiers when emergencies or tragedies occur – health crises, immediate family passing, or extreme injuries inside or outside of the IDF where additional help is needed. It also helps soldiers in dire financial straits cover wedding costs and similar major life-cycle events.

AT RISK YOUTH

There are hundreds of Israeli youth who come from broken homes or Ultra-Orthodox backgrounds and are no longer able to live with, or receive support or communication from their families.
These youth do not receive the same financial benefits that new immigrants are privy to. They often suffer from severe poverty and rent tiny apartments as a group of 2-6 soldiers. The apartments are rented unfurnished, without beds, a refrigerator, tables, chairs or a sofa. They cannot afford basic necessities such as clothing, shoes and personal care items.
In addition to our furniture delivery programs and one-on-one counseling services, the Lone Soldier Center created special programs and charities geared specifically for these communities.
The LSC volunteers run a clothing charity, which contains donated items in good condition. We also receive donations from local companies who have donated boxes of brand new sneakers and other items. Through donations and sponsorships we have been able to purchase backpacks, food vouchers, winter gear and more.
